A group of 25 members began meeting in December. 2013 to discuss how the church can be renovated. This committee is open to any member of St. Andrews that are interested in helping to improve our church and increase our membership. The book, Renovate or Die by Bob Farr, has been the main source of information for the committee. Rev. Andy Lunt from the Baltimore Washington Conference gave a presentation after the 10:45 service on February 9th. Rev. Lunt explained during his presentation that we need to get a clear picture of out present reality.
To start a new life cycle, we must focus on prayer and vision. The committee came up with a new vision and mission statement. Mission: To Show, Share, and Grow in God's love through Jesus Christ Vision: Believe in God, Follow Jesus, Serve others
Rev. Lunt explained to us the characteristics of a church in decline and a vibrant church.
With the electronic age upon us, Rev. Lunt stated that it is a must for the church to be on Facebook and to have a webpage. The facebook address is : St. Andrews United Methodist Church - Hagerstown, MD.
Some of the ideas that the committee has discussed are:
Conduct a neighborhood prayer walk.
Create a mentoring program with Bester School
Enhance worship with large screen, projector, and a person to operate the equipment.
Each member and attendee will participate in one project (fundraiser, outreach, or mission during the year.
"Sprucing up" the hallway with new paint, uniform sized bulletin boards, cleaning up.
Let's come together as a church to make plans for our future.
